The Library and its Collection
Since 1868, the Literary and Historical Society of Quebec's magnificent library has been located in the heart of the Morrin Centre building. Its unique decor, artefacts and documents recall the heritage of the English-speaking community.

Our general-interest English-language collection emphasizes Canadian fiction and history, popular biographies, early travel narratives and local interest material. Click here (pdf format) to consult our bibliography of Quebec City's English-language literary heritage, which contains many books available at the library. The library also has a well-developed children's collection. Our collection of colourful board books and books for beginning readers is sure to please even the most finicky of young book lovers! New acquisitions are made every month for each collection and members are invited to participate actively in the selection process.

The library accepts book donations. Kindly check our Book Donation Policy (pdf format) before contacting us for a book donation from your private collection.

The library is proudly hosting the Guess the Giller contest this fall. You could win an all-expenses paid trip for two to a Canadian literary festival of the winner's choice, valued at $5,000, plus a complete set of autographed shortlisted books. Participate by filling out a ballot at our library before November 5, 2007.
Services for every need
We are happy to welcome students, families, researchers and readers looking for a quiet space. A visit to the library is a chance for you to discover, either by perusing our shelves on your own or asking our friendly and knowledgeable bilingual staff for suggestions. A variety of titles by authors from around the world await you: let your curiosity take you to new horizons or revisit familiar ones!

A wide range of services is offered to cater to our members' various needs. The Mobile Library delivers, each month, a selection of books: we proudly offer this service to our members who have difficulty getting out or with reduced mobility in partnership with the Holland Centre.
