Presented as part of the 40th anniversary of Old Quebec’s designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this series of talks highlights the building’s remarkable past, its role in the community, and the evolution of the surrounding neighbourhood.

A fascinating talk spanning over 300 years of history, from military fortification to today’s library.
Presenter Biography
Donald Fyson, history professor at Université Laval, is specialised in Quebec history from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. He is particularly interested in the relationship between State, rights, and society, notably in the contexts of criminal and civil justice, police, and local administration. His research touches on subjects such as homicides, incarceration, and capital punishment. He is also the honorary librarian of the LHSQ.
