The meaningful work and relationship between the author and the translator are at the core of this discussion about the art of translation and A Ramshackle Home<\/em>. Discover how Judith Weisz Woodsworth<\/strong> (she\/her) translated Felicia Mihali<\/strong>\u2019s (she\/her) book Le pays du fromage <\/em>while respecting the nuanced manner in which Mihali conveys thoughts, ideas, and emotions, and while skillfully transcribing the interwoven memories and mythological tales portrayed in the novel.<\/em><\/p>\n

Felicia Mihali<\/strong> studied French, Mandarin and Dutch, and specialized in history and comparative literature at Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al. Since the publication of her highly acclaimed novel Le Pays du fromage <\/em>in 2002, she has written seven books in French and three in English, including The Darling of Kandahar<\/em> (LLP 2012), which was selected by Canada Reads as one of the best books of 2013. Founder and president of \u00c9ditions Hashtag, she lives in Montreal.<\/p>\n

Judith Weisz Woodsworth<\/p><\/div>\n

Judith Weisz Woodsworth<\/strong>\u00a0is a translator and Distinguished Professor Emerita at Concordia University. She has published widely on translation history and theory, including\u00a0Translators through History<\/em>, with Jean Delisle, which has been reissued and translated into several languages since it was first published in 1995. Her recent publications include the monograph Telling the Story of Translation: Writers Who Translate<\/em>\u00a0(2017) and the edited volumes\u00a0The Fictions of Translation<\/em>\u00a0(2018) and\u00a0Translation and the Global City: Bridges and Gateways<\/em>\u00a0(2021). She has translated novels by Pierre Nepveu, Abla Farhoud, and Felicia Mihali. She was the recipient of the 2022 Governor General\u2019s literary award for her translation History of the Jews in Quebec<\/em> by Pierre Anctil. She was founding president of the Canadian Association for Translation Studies, of which she is currently an honorary member. She holds a PhD in French literature from McGill University and lives in Montr\u00e9al.<\/p>\n
