DESCRIPTION:This event is full! Does your inner critic hijack the creative process? This workshop teaches you how to bypass the editor and access authentic voice through your body. \nUsing breathwork\, bilateral movement\, and embodied writing exercises\, you’ll learn to quiet mental chatter and write from a grounded\, present state. We’ll explore the neuroscience behind creative flow and practice somatic techniques that shift you out of “editor brain” and into generative mode. \n  \n\n\n\nParticipants will: \n– Understand how nervous system regulation supports creative expression \n– Practice body-based techniques for accessing creative flow \n– Generate 3-5 pieces of raw written material using sensory prompts \n– Learn to write from body memory rather than mental narrative \n– Take home a resource guide with somatic writing practices to continue using them independently \n  \nAll materials will be provided. Amanda facilitates intuitive painting workshops and creative retreats with an embodied approach and is currently completing a memoir. DESCRIPTION:Ichor on the Skinwalker is a group activity made of deductions and communication\, made to learn about yourself while having fun. Over the course of one evening\, our villagers must identify and neutralize the man eaters that walk among them! To succeed\, they’ll need all of their powers of persuasion. She was part of the performance troupe of the Manigance dance company for over 10 years before taking over their artistic direction for 5yerars. She has danced on numerous stages in 7 countries\, including over 15 years as part of guest shows for the cruise ships docking in Old Quebec. She has also been teaching jig and québécois traditional dances since 2004\, notably for Club Gigus. In 2022\, she joined the Celtic band McCool and\, in 2023\, joined the lineup of the Match d’improvisation giguée\, which currently tours in Quebec. Recent recipient of bursaries from the Conseil des Arts et Lettres du Québec and the Canada Art Council\, Maude is interested in other forms of jig and is training with many mentors. She wonders about the technical variations that differentiate or link those other jigs to the québécois version.  \n— \nCredit: Carbo Photo \nSabin Jacques built a brilliant reputation in the field of Québécois traditional music. Originally from Gaspée\, he is as known in his field in Quebec as he is internationally. From 1992 to 2009\, he had many meetings with popular artists: Édith Butler\, Hugues Aufray\, Jean-Pierre Ferland\, and Grégory Charles. He participated in the tribute to Alfred Montmarquette\, initiated by the late Gabriel Labbé. Living in Chaudière-Appalaches since 2009\, Sabin co-founded the Camp de Souches à Oreilles\, a flourishing place to transmit living heritage. As a teacher and mentor\, Sabin has allowed hundreds of musicians\, amateurs and professionals\, to discover or deepen their knowledge of Québecois traditional music. He has recently received many prizes for his last album\, Grandes Rencontres. Sabin Jacques’s playing is touching and highly skilled. \n  \n\nIn the Ballroom—Traditional Music and Dance of a Community is presented in collaboration with the Centre de valorisation du patrimoine vivant Ès TRAD and made possible thanks to financial support from the Gouvernement du Québec and Ville de Québec through their cultural development agreement. \nCheck out the full programming here!

Click here! \n  \nWorkshop Facilitator—Dianna Burns \n \nI am an enthusiastic and vigorous painter who has had a dedicated studio practice since 1997. I am curious and experimental by nature and my daily art practice includes an intuitive and eclectic painting style. Being a fearless painter I allow myself the presence to let the paint flow\, taking a course of its own and directing the traffic that becomes my art. I am as adventurous and spirited in my art as I am in my life. I am easily bored and must create in order to have a meaning in my life. \nOriginally from Saskatchewan\, I embrace the abundance of nature which is the underlying inspiration that informs my work. There is nothing that can be made that nature hasn’t already perfected. I steep myself in colour and I paint mostly in oil\, usually in an abstract manner. When the spirit moves me I utilize mixed media\, and I have been known to include collage elements\, resin\, inks and encaustic applications as well. Colour\, line and form direct my process of layering paint\, building texture\, moving and removing paint and balancing the composition as it begins to emerge on the canvas\, until I find the combination that expresses my inner voice. My inner voice can change from day to day so a painting usually is transformed a number of times before it is uniquely and decidedly my own. \nI have migrated from spending most of my life on the Prairies in Saskatchewan to Vancouver and since 2021 to Limoilou in Quebec City. In Vancouver I had a very engaged studio practice as an active member of Razstone Studio and the North Vancouver Arts Council. I participated in the East Side Culture Crawl from 2010-2021. I take commissions for conceptual art and portraiture. My work has been shown extensively in Western Canada and sold internationally.  \nYou can view my art online here. Her literary arts practice has taken her work to the Americas\, Europe\, Africa\, and Australia. She is the author of the collections De rivières (2019\, La Peuplade) and MONUMENTS (2022\, Le Noroît)\, the book Fendre les eaux (2023\, De l’Homme) and co-director of the Anthologie de la poésie actuelle des femmes au Québec 2000 | 2020 (2021\, Remue-ménage). Her writing is vivid and sharp\, a whirlwind of audacity whose central themes are sisterhood\, filiation\, and real and fantasized territories. She has won several grants and awards\, including the Prix Félix-Antoine-Savard (2021\, FIPTR)\, and was a finalist for the Prix de l’Institut canadien de Québec (2021) and the Prix du CALQ – Artiste de l’année en Capitale-Nationale (2023). Under the mentorship of Nicole Brossard\, Vanessa Bell is the first francophone Canadian to be supported by the Writers’ Trust of Canada’s Rising Stars program (2022). \n  \nCredit: Maude Veilleux \nSimon Brown \nSimon Brown (he/they/il/iel) is an interdisciplinary artist\, poet\, and translator from rural New Brunswick based in the Quebec City area. Simon’s English and French-language texts have been presented in literary journals\, zines\, chapbooks\, and poetry collections\, as well as in media artworks\, films\, dance pieces\, operettas\, experimental readings and performances at the Banff Centre (Banff)\, Versefest (Ottawa)\, Frye Festival (Moncton)\, Centre international de poésie (Marseille)\, Maison de la littérature (Quebec City)\, Festival acadien de poésie (Caraquet)\, and the Darling Foundry (Montreal)\, among others. Since the early 2010s\, Simon has hosted many creative workshops combining poetry\, improvisation\, and performance in partnership with organizations from across Canada. Click here! \n  \nGuests \nCredit: Carbo Photo \nTina Anderson grew up in North Carolina and the Appalachians\, surrounded with dance and music since her childhood. She moved to Quebec 36 years ago. Tina renewed with her roots during the Quebec City “veillées de danse” in 2013\, and goes dancing every week since. She even travels to the USA to live her passion\, this time for the American Contra\, which she will be delighted to teach you during this workshop. \nTo learn more about Tina\, listen to Ès TRAD’s podcast “Porter la tradition.” \n— \nBorn in Beresford\, New-Brunswick\, in a family of musicians\, Martin Aucoin plays music by ear since in teenage years. He brings together violin\, “podorythmie” (feet percussions)\, and song in various projects\, on stage and in the studio. He is a known enthusiast for the “veillées de danse” and trad music jam sessions. Involved in his local musical community\, he has also performed at large-scale international events\, with long-established musicians. His repertoire is rooted in the traditions of francophones of North-East America and is full of a natural style and a lively “swing.” \n— \nMathieu Baillargeon started learning classical piano at three years old. Initiated into the world of traditional music in 2013\, he started a musical accompaniement training with Rachel Aucoin\, and discovered the diatonic accordion thanks to Sabin Jacques. In 2017\, Mathieu performed for the first time of many at the Carrefour mondial de l’accordéon. He then collaborated with many artists (FLIP Fabrique\, Les Chauffeurs à pied\, etc.) during concerts\, “veillées\,” and animations throughout the province. In 2018\, he co-founded La Déferlance and joined the Board of the Maréemusique organization. He also started regularly giving piano and accordion classes. Since then\, Mathieu has taught at events in Canada and the United States (de Souches à Oreilles\, Ashokan Northern Week\, Danse-Neige\, etc.). As well as his many musical projects\, Mathieu has a master’s degree in statistics and is in charge of the survey methodology at the Institut de la statistique du Québec. \n  \n\n  \nIn the Ballroom—Traditional Music and Dance of a Community is presented in collaboration with the Centre de valorisation du patrimoine vivant Ès TRAD and made possible thanks to financial support from the Gouvernement du Québec and Ville de Québec through their cultural development agreement. \nCheck out the full programming here!

DESCRIPTION:This hands-on workshop explores how 3D and texturing can bring packaging design to life. Participants will learn the basics of Blender\, discover how textures enhance digital objects\, and experiment with turning hand-drawn ideas into digital materials. Moving from paper to screen\, we’ll bridge traditional creativity and digital craft to better understand 3D from a practical perspective and see how it can open new creative possibilities. \n  \nPlease note: No previous experience is required and all crafts material will be provided. Participants do not need a computer. \n  \n \n  \nBiography \n \nMaïmouna Traore is a graphic design graduate and aspiring art director with a strong focus on branding\, storytelling\, and 3D art. Her curiosity and experimental mindset led her to teach herself Blender\, a 3D modeling software that broadened her creative range by allowing her to merge 3D modeling with graphic design to create striking visuals that distinguish her creative voice. Still early in her career\, she is continually exploring new mediums\, techniques\, and concepts\, often incorporating photography and illustration into her work. Maïmouna’s multidisciplinary approach reflects her belief that design is most impactful when it unites technical mastery\, experimentation\, and narrative depth. \n  \n\n  \n \nThe Artistic Connections—Creating Intergenerational Bonds project invites people from different backgrounds to come together and enjoy shared artistic experiences through a variety of visual and performing arts workshops. \nDesigned to foster connection and collaboration between community members of all ages\, this project highlights different approaches to creative expression influenced and motivated by the tendencies of artistic disciplines through the ages. DESCRIPTION:Zines—another word for small self-published or hand-made books—are the perfect expression of do-it-yourself creativity. From poetry chapbooks to art and comics\, to sharing information about social issues\, zines have become a favourite medium for those who have a message or a creative gift to share. Best of all\, anyone can make a zine\, whatever your starting level of ability\, and with just a few materials. \n  \n \n  \nWe’ll be plunging straight into the creative process at this hands-on introductory workshop\, where participants will… \n– Get an idea for their zine \n– Experiment with simple bookmaking techniques \n– Get creative—write\, draw\, cut\, fold\, glue… \n– Learn ways to share their creations with other zine-makers and the public \n– Take home their first zine at the end of the workshop \n  \nAll crafts material will be provided. This workshop is open to all\, with no previous experience required. \n  \nBiography of the artist \n\n\n\nCredit: Lindsay Müller \nMary Thaler lives in Quebec City. Formerly an oceanographic researcher\, she now works as a scientific editor\, translator\, writer\, and zine-maker. She is author and illustrator of numerous comic zines tackling subjects such as housing precarity in the Canadian Arctic\, writing craft\, and the fictional adventures of mutant lab animals. As well as being active in the indie comic scene\, Mary has written many short stories appearing in magazines such as Orca Literary\, Prairie Fire\, and The New Quarterly. Her verse novella\, Ulfhildr\, was published by Untimely Books in Fall 2023. DESCRIPTION:Storytime is a literacy program for children ages 3 to 7. Each activity begins with the reading of a story followed by a craft inspired by its themes. Our objective is to foster children’s love of reading by providing fun\, interactive activities that will encourage them to continue reading after each session. \nAll sessions are free and take place in the Library every Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. \nRegistration is required to participate. DESCRIPTION:As part of the My Morrin program\, Peter Kloehn\, a retired professor of art history and history of photography\, offers a talk to explore how the medium was integral to the shift from Abstract Expressionism to Pop Art and beyond. \n  \n \n  \nPresenter Biography \n \nPeter Kloehn\, retired Professor of Art History and History of Photography \n“I was born in Appleton\, Wisconsin. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin\, Madison with an English major\, I enlisted in the Army\, teaching High School GED classes in Panama during my service. I later earned an MFA in Photography and Art from the California Institute of the Arts\, which led to my first teaching job at the University of North Carolina\, Charlotte. Over 35 years\, I taught at Rutgers\, Moore College of Art\, SUNY Albany\, Russel Sage College\, the International Center of Photography\, the School of Visual Arts\, and New York University. \nAs a practicing photographer\, I spent 30 years documenting the Altars of the African Diaspora in Brazil\, Argentina\, Uruguay\, and Cuba\, culminating in my book Altar Book. My work has been exhibited internationally and is in the permanent collections of Davidson College and the Brooklyn Museum. \nTeaching has been the pride of my career\, and I’m deeply grateful for the many students I’ve had the privilege to mentor.” \n\n  \nAbstract \nPeter Kloehn\, a retired Professor at NYU and SVA\, presents a lecture on the pivotal role of photography in the transition from Modernism to Postmodernism. As an art historian specializing in photography\, Kloehn explores how the medium was integral to the shift from Abstract Expressionism to Pop Art and beyond.
