This cooking workshop will be given in French and will teach how to make cabbage cigar rolls with corned beef and apples. From scones to chicken fricassee, the Culinary Mosaic series of workshops at the Morrin Centre offer a wonderful opportunity to prepare dishes and learn about the history of the English and French Canadian food traditions. A variety of dishes will be presented by and made under the guidance of chef, writer, stylist, consultant, and entrepreneur Héloïse Leclerc from La Touche Héloïse. She will also provide some historical background, share fun facts about the dishes, and give tips to adjust and create variations of the recipes for further enjoyment. Register here! Please note: – The hands-on workshops cover the preparation of the dishes, but they will still need to be cooked at home before eating. – During the general public workshops, children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult and the adult must book tickets for both themselves and their child(ren). This Saturday, we will be reading Frida Kahlo and Her Animalitos – a celebration of one of the world’s most influential painters, Frida Kahlo, and the animals that inspired her art and life.
Join Montreal artist Billy Mavreas in a mixed-media exploration inspired by prompts from English-language writing from Quebec, combining words and images to create unique visual poetry that is both read and appreciated as visual art. You can attend either or both sessions, no previous experience required: - Register here for the workshop on Monday, March 4, at 7 p.m. - Register here for the workshop on Wednesday, March 6, at 7 p.m. Billy Mavreas is a multidisciplinary artist and creativity workshop leader specializing in jumpstarting inspiration through collaborative creative play. The author of four graphic novels and director of gallery boutique Monastiraki (1998 – 2021), he has been involved in the Montreal arts community since the 1980s. Billy is also a gifted teacher who has done writing and art activities for Atwater Writers Exhibition with seniors, kids, and adults, people with a range of past experience or none at all. His artwork often includes text. He has published Mutations: The Posters Of Billy Mavreas (Conundrum Press), The Overlords Of Glee (Conundrum Press & Crunchy Comics), Inside Outside Overlap (Timeless Books), and Next Time Around (Conundrum Press). This Saturday, we will be reading Ohana Means Family – join the family, or ohana, as they farm taro for poi to prepare for a traditional luau celebration with a poetic text in the style of The House That Jack Built.

Our guests Richard Walling is the Executive Director of the Jeffery Hale Community Partners, an organization focused on the development of health and social services for the English-speaking minority community in the Quebec City region. He is President of the Jeffery Hale – Saint Brigid’s Advisory Committee. co-Chair of the “L’équipe de recherche en partenariat sur la diversité culturelle et l’immigration dans la région de Québec”, and co-author of ‘The Holland Centre Experience – A Community Development Model for Minorities – I dream’. Michael Boden was born and raised in Quebec City. Michael graduated from Acadia University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He joined the Foundations’ Office in 2002 and is the Executive Director of The Jeffery Hale Foundation, Citadel Foundation, and St. Brigid’s Home Foundation. Michael, in collaboration with the QAC, wrote and produced a multi-media theatre presentation “The Philanthropist”, the life story of Jeffery Hale. - and members from the Quebec Art Company Michael Boden, Richard Walling and a few special guests, will present the historic journey of Jeffery Hale “The Philanthropist “and the evolution of the Jeffery Hale Hospital and partner organizations, from the early 1800’s to today’s reality and beyond. As a true humanitarian, Jeffery Hale’s legacy has and continues to inspire leaders of the community working to ensure its vitality 160 years after his death. Click here for the full programming

Our guest Patrick Donovan, Ph.D., will talk about the evolution of charitable organizations catering to the English-speaking population of Quebec City from 1759 to now. His talk will highlight the intricate ethnic and religious dynamics that shaped the sector. From the unexpected support of British authorities for Catholic charitable infrastructure to the emergence of distinct assistance networks for various ethno-religious groups, to a more consolidated structure today, this richly-illustrated talk will reflect how the broader English-speaking community of the city has changed over the years.
