The Literary and Historical Society of Quebec's library was once a significant resource for researchers. Most of our rare and unique documents have since been transferred to institutions better equipped to ensure their long-term conservation and diffusion. Nevertheless, we want to serve as a stepping stone to all researchers who seek to get their bearings in this city, referring them to institutions or people capable of meeting their needs in English . Here are some useful starting points:
Laval University libraries: Over 4 million documents in all fields of knowledge, including the largest collection of specialized English-language books in the city.
Société de Généalogie de Québec: Partner organization providing support and resources in English for all kinds of genealogical research.
Library of the National Assembly: 1,800,000 documents, with focus on law, political science, history, economy and government documents. Many complete collections of old newspapers.
Canadiana.org: Searchable database with 1 700 000 pages of early texts relating to Canadian history.
Our Roots: Large collection of digitized Canadian local histories online.
Bibliothèque et archives nationales du Québec: Digitized maps, postcards, and press clippings.
