In this exchange, writer and illustrator Kyo Maclear and musician, photographer and writer Jack Breakfast explore the intertwining of nature, the urban landscape, our passions, and creativity. The discussion will revolve around Kyo’s Birds Art Life – a memoir inspired by Jack’s love of birds – that has been described as “a field guide to things small and significant.” Breakfast and Maclear focus in particular on the relationship between artistic inspiration and attending to the details of the world around us.

Between 2001 and 2009, Jack Breakfast recorded and released three lumpy collections of heartsick oddities called Rock and roll album, Over big bridges, and The Escapers. In 2010, Breakfast lost his heart to birds and began to photograph and write about his local alar with great regularity and gusto! Some manifestations of his compulsive love are seeable in his two self-published avian artbooks, Small Birdsongs, volumes one and two. In 2017 the bold birdbrain returned to music and put forth a short but sparky song cycle called Small Birdsongs for __________. Jack Breakfast lives and works in Toronto!
