A celebration of Paul Almond’s life and work
Host: Rachelle Solomon, host of Breakaway, CBC Radio One
On the eve of the first anniversary of Paul Almond‘s passing, CBC’s Rachelle Solomon will host an evening in the author and filmmaker’s honour. In his later years, Almond wrote The Alford Saga, eight historical novels based on his family’s roots in the Gaspé region. His career in television and film stretched over forty years, and included the landmark documentary Seven Up! (1964), as well as films like Isabel (1968) and The Act of the Heart (1970). Longtime collaborator Jay Iversen will give context to Almond’s contributions to cinema, while Danielle E. Cyr, who translated Almond’s novels to French, will share reflections about his literary works.
Tickets for the panel discussion will be on sale at regular prices. A free screening of October Beach (1964, 30 min.), filmed in the Gaspé region, will follow.
