On Saturday, August 3, chaussée des Écossais and Place de l’Institut Canadien transform into a lively garden filled with artistic activities!
There will be fun for the whole family all day long! The day starts at 10:30 a.m. with a Book Quest activity for children ages 3 to 7. Come and have a cup of tea with Alice in Wonderland at 11 a.m., and bring your kids ages 8 to 12 to another Book Quest activity at 1:30 p.m. Face painting for children will also be available during the afternoon.
From 12:00 p.m. to 5 p.m., explore the work of local artisans and exhibitors, listen to the music of local folk bands playing four back-to-back concerts, and be entertained by street performers.
In case of rain, all activities will happen indoors, inside the Morrin Centre.
Long John Band
“The day the blind beggar delivers him the Black Spot, the ultimate summons of death and vengeance for pirates, Billy Bones drops dead of fright.”
Treasure Island, Robert-Louis Stevenson
Sea shanties, pub songs, pirate activities/entertainment for adults and children… Alongside his crew’s songs, Long John keeps the beat with his wooden leg. Imagine the festive din that these brothers and sisters from the coast make in the great ports around the world. Heir to La Ferraille, Long John Band draws on their musical and social roots to serenade you and intoxicate you with music.
Folk You is an Irish folk band in the spirit of masters such as The Pogues, the Dubliners, the Irish Rovers, etc. They have adapted the musical classics of Ireland, as well as some standards from Scotland and England. Building on this tradition, they have developed their own style and their own way of presenting a culture that courses through their veins, despite being separated from it by thousands of kilometers. Their instrumentation has been carefully chosen to reflect this vision. They aim to revive the musical gems of the past while giving them a touch of ‘‘chez nous’’ and present their own original music that is inspired by the songs of the people.
Bosko Baker and the Saint-Jean Street Band
Formed on the streets of Québec, this band of ragtag performers plays original music with an old-time feel and a street band swing. They will have you tapping your feet and clapping your hands along to the beat of their festive music.
